Waiting for the healing to begin

Sunday night I went for a run for the first time in almost a month.  I was hopeful to run really slow for a couple of miles pain free.  After less than 1/2 of a mile the pain began.  I stared walking and stretching.  I jogged a little more for a total of less than 1 mile.  On Monday, I was practically limping.  I could not believe it, it was as though all that time off had not helped me at all.  Fortunately I have been much more focused on the more important things in life, i.e. my faith.  I really want to get better, but it looks like it is going to take some time, more time than I would have ever thought.

The pushups on the other had have been going really well.  I am definitely going to be doing week 5 over again however.  When you just look at the numbers it does not look like I am getting much stronger but that is not the case.  My form has been getting better and I have been waiting less time between sets.  Yesterday I waited 45 seconds between each set and all 108 pushups were slow and as close to perfect form as I can do.  It is amazing how much easier it is to do pushups if you drop to an inch from the ground instead of going all the way to the ground and tapping it with your chest.  I still think that 100 consecutive perfect form pushups sounds pretty crazy but I will keep trying.  I am going to try the trainer again soon and hopefully I will be able to do that pain free.

The first paragraph of your post sounds so familiar...I STILL can't run and this Sunday it will be 6 weeks since my last run...I also tried a run and got 0.3 miles before my pain began and it just seemed to put me back at "ground zero"...Thanks for saying it, it helps to know I am not alone! (Although, I don't wish you to be hurt so I can feel better!) I hope you get better soon!

pain for a month? do you think maybe it's time to get it checked out? (i can't remember if you have or not yet...)

hope you can find some cross-training cardio that doesn't hurt so you can maintain your fitness - the trainer, maybe swimming/aqua workouts?

I'm praying for your healing...

I can't believe this isn't getting any better. I can't remember what you've done so far either. Have you tried ART? You have to find someone good, but I think ART can work for these types of issues. The other thing that often works - and is pretty cheap - is a basic foam roller. Glad to hear that the push-ups are going well. I think I'm going to try this challenge soon myself.

Keep up it big guy. I'm doing the push ups along with you. I just finished week 2. The program I'm following is modified from the website. Get healed up.

So sorry that your pain continues. How awesome, though, is your testimony of faith.

I second the foam roller idea. A trainer at my gym suggested that recently when my IT band was hurting, and it really helps. Have you tried running backwards? Hope you feel better soon!
